London and Orfans
Spiro Orfans (1886-1948)
A Greek immigrant, Spiro Orfans came to the U.S. in 1906. He admired Jack
London and wrote him a letter that produced an invitation to the London’s
Glen Ellen ranch in 1914. Jack’s book “The Mutiny of the Elsinore” prompted
Spiro to protest Jack’s frequent use of white Anglo Saxon heroes in his
plots. Their contentious correspondence is related here by Chuck Kensler as
Jack London and Jim Passage as Spiro Orfans.
